Claude Usage for MAC
Free, open-source menu bar app for Claude Code users: session, weekly and credit usage in the menu bar and a context readout in the status line.
Claude Usage Overview
Claude Usage is a small native app for people who use Claude Code. In the menu bar it shows your current five-hour session, your weekly usage for all models and for Sonnet, and your pay-as-you-go credits, each with a usage bar and its reset time, without opening Claude Code. It also adds a one-line readout under your Claude Code prompt with the model, how full the context window is and the tokens used, so you can compact a session before it runs out of room. Each terminal pane shows its own readout, also across tmux.
Claude Usage is made by the GitHub developer Bread-bang and is free and open source under the MIT license. It is written in Swift and SwiftUI with no Electron and no other dependencies, has no backend or telemetry, and reuses the sign-in Claude Code already keeps in your Keychain. You need macOS 13 or later, an Apple Silicon Mac (the release build is for Apple Silicon only) and Claude Code signed in. The build is notarized. Version 0.4.3 fixes a doubled, square frame around the dropdown on macOS 26 and the wrong version number shown in Finder. One limit to know: it relies on an undocumented usage endpoint and on Claude Code's Keychain format, and both can change without notice.
Key Features
Claude Usage keeps your Claude Code limits in view.
- Session and weekly usage: the five-hour session and the week for all models and Sonnet only.
- Credits: pay-as-you-go credits with a usage bar.
- Reset times: every limit shows when it resets.
- Menu bar number: pick which window to show, with traffic-light colours.
- Context readout: model, percent full and tokens used under your Claude Code prompt.
- Works per pane: each terminal pane shows its own session, also in tmux.
- Settings: a choice of icon and a refresh interval of 30 seconds, 1 minute or 5 minutes.
- Fails gracefully: keeps the last good data with a warning and backs off on rate limits.
What’s New in Version 0.4.3
Claude Usage 0.4.3 fixes two display problems.
- The dropdown no longer shows a doubled, square-cornered frame on macOS 26
- Finder now shows the real version instead of 0.2.0
Claude Usage FAQ
Is Claude Usage free?
Yes. Claude Usage is free and open source under the MIT license.
What do I need to use Claude Usage?
macOS 13 or later, an Apple Silicon Mac and Claude Code signed in. Run claude once so the sign-in is stored in your Keychain.
Does Claude Usage run on Intel Macs?
The release build is for Apple Silicon only, so it does not run on Intel Macs.
What does Claude Usage show in the menu bar?
Your current five-hour session, your weekly usage for all models and for Sonnet only, and your pay-as-you-go credits, each with a usage bar and its reset time.
What is the context readout?
A one-line status line under your Claude Code prompt with the model, how full the context window is and the tokens used. Each pane shows its own, also in tmux.
Does Claude Usage send my data anywhere?
No. It has no backend and no telemetry. Its only network request goes to the same usage address Claude Code uses, and the token is read from the Keychain and held only in memory.
Will Claude Usage overwrite my existing status line?
No. It registers its status line command only when the status line slot is empty or already its own; another tool's status line is never overwritten.
Could Claude Usage stop working?
It relies on an undocumented usage endpoint and on Claude Code's Keychain format, and both can change without notice.
Can I install Claude Usage with Homebrew?
Yes, from the developer's tap: brew install bread-bang/tap/claude-usage.
Where does the Claude Usage download on claude-usage.FULLMAC.app come from?
The download button leads to the official Claude Usage releases on GitHub at https://github.com/Bread-bang/claude-usage/releases/latest. claude-usage.FULLMAC.app does not change or repackage the app.

QuotaBarIf you use OpenAI Codex with a ChatGPT account, the usage limits reset on a 5-hour and a weekly window, and checking how much is left means opening Codex or ChatGPT. QuotaBar puts the remaining percentage in the Mac menu bar and refreshes it every 60 seconds. Click the icon for a detailed panel with every limit window and its reset countdown, or turn on a small floating HUD that stays on top of other windows.Developer Tools
Stargazer BarStargazer Bar is a small native menu bar app for Mac that keeps an eye on GitHub repositories for you. It puts a live star count in the menu bar, so you can see how a project is doing without keeping a browser tab open, and a click opens a dropdown with the details: star and fork trend charts, release download totals and a maintainer radar. Public repositories are measured by their stars. Private repositories, which have no stars, are measured by what needs your attention: a failing build, an unanswered issue or a new pull request.Developer Tools
Notch So GoodNotch So Good turns the notch of your MacBook into a small status display for AI coding agents. While Claude Code or the OpenAI Codex CLI works, a black pill extends the notch: a 3D character called Peek sits on the left, and a ring on the right shows how much of your 5-hour usage window is left. The more a session needs you, the further Peek climbs out. When a task finishes, fails or runs into a usage limit, the notch opens into a card that says what happened and in which project, and a click jumps to the exact terminal tab, tmux pane included.Developer Tools
TintpadTintpad is a free, open-source launcher for developers who work with command-line coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex. Press Option-Command-Space anywhere and a black drop falls out of your Mac's notch, or hangs below the menu bar on Macs without one, with your repositories inside. Type a few letters, press Return, and your own terminal opens at that repository with the agent already running, in the mode you used there last.Developer Tools
